we were talking on a level of destruction within a community. Liquor destroys communities in the hood....that's why they make sure there's a gang of liquor stores around projects and shyt like that. We don't see rappers selling vintage wines though...we see them sellin yak & vodka cause that's their market.

Kartel took a phenomena that exists within Jamaica (skin lightening and profited off it). Shyt thing to do but if you look at it, it's the same thing. If either negative phenomena didn't exist beforehand, you wouldn't see them being profited on.

Secondly, I never gave him props for lightening his skin. I actually think it was a stupid decision for him to make.

Third, he's an entertainer...when you ask if I'm "taking him seriously" I have to ask what you mean by that. I listen to his music...I don't look to him for advice or rely him to make important decisions in my life.

Lastly, I'm an advocate of racial pride. There's nothing wrong with being proud of your ethnic and racial background whatsoever. However, I'm also an advocate in the belief that a person's skin color is unimportant within the grand scheme of things. Would Vybz Kartel be any less black if he tatted over every patch of skin instead of bleaching it to a lighter color? MJ lightened his skin because he was ashamed of his skin patches and cut up his nose because his father verbally abused him about it. Didn't stop him from claiming his blackness at the end of the day. He never claimed to be white or light-skinned.

there was photo footage of his skin being affected by vitiligo even before he died. I guess people felt that he should've just left his skin the way it was or colored his skin it's regular color as opposed to matching it when his body became mostly pale.
