What kind of rap do you like? 90's sample driven shyt or trap/melody heavy modern rap? Because he does both and what you prefer is gonna determine what I suggest you listen to.

A couple random thoughts browsing the thread....

1. I don't understand people being upset the album is so short. This time last week we didn't even know we were getting a new Gibbs album....he literally announced the mixtape and dropped it within 12 hours. So even a short album is more music that you expected to get, which was none.

2. I don't understand people being upset this is trap Gibbs. He already said "Bandana" is next and he never drops similar sounding projects back to back....after "Pinana" he came out with "Shadow Of A Doubt", which is nothing alike. And on that album he had a song with Black Thought, which was different from the rest of the album.

Even with "Freddie", he dropped a song with fukking MF DOOM the same day. He's trying to hit literally every rap fan base on the planet.

I'll be the first to admit that when I first listened to this project I was so disappointed because I wanted more You Only Live 2wice Gibbs but during the third time through my head was knocking and I realized that Trap Gibbs is just as dope as Gangsta Gibbs just in a different way.

I had a similar reaction to Shadow of a Doubt when it first dropped but came around on that too.

You're right about him not dropping similar sounding projects back to back and it took this album for me to realize that.

We should appreciate the diversity that he can offer rather than just wanting the same thing every album cause that's how artists fall off

I think he eased in this modern, atmospheric trap sound now, I personally didn't find the sound of this so different from YOL2 . There are differences in the moods of the albums and this one is maybe more knocking but overall these 2 and SOAD are on a similar vein. Or maybe I could say they are more similar to each other (and Pronto) than to earlier Gibbs releases.
Not that it's a problem though, this sound fits him too and he picks his production and changes his cadence and flow on a way that it doesn't become repetitive to me.

My man.

After Gibbs linked up with Madlib he made a conscious effort to be as diverse as possible. He said nobody really takes gangster rappers seriously nowadays (in terms of talent) so he wanted to prove that he can do literally anything and make it sound hot. Which is why he has songs with everyone from Greedo to MF DOOM.

Been jamming this since it dropped. It seems Gibbs picked up some new fans with this. All of my boys who never really listened to gibbs are fukkin with this heavy. Had to tell them "yeah it's dope but stop sleeping and check out Shadow of a doubt and Pinata now "
