Ehh, that’s always been an overrated take.Having a really muscular physique is actually a disadvantage because muscle is very stiff and uses a lot of oxygen.
Lean and ripped swimmer bodies are the ideal for fighting, slightly chubby dad bods are second.
Most of those guys that are elite MMA fighters and boxers are lean with chiseled physiques and not overly muscular.
Guys like Jon Jones, Israel Adesanya, Kamaru Usman, Terrance Crawford, Usyk and others are good examples of this all are wiry lean guys with long reach and are not overly muscular. I think guys with that body type have a significant advantage over the shorter, stockier, and more muscular guys as it relates to combat sports.
Typically guys that carry more muscle mass are not as well cardio conditioned either which is very important for an elite fighter.
I’m more of a casual MMA watcher. He was lean the last I saw. He must be getting bigger and trying to go up in weight now.there’s no way you have seen Jon Jones lately and Usman is one of the biggest in his weight class
You made the mistake of thinking this thread was actually about combat sports
You can be lean and have a strong frame at the same time. Most body builders have weaker muscule fibers than gymnasts. Its about building functional muscle over water weight and bulkSome of y’all just say ANYTHING on these threads…. So now only dudes who are lean and trim like swimmers and nikkas with Dad Bods are good fighters……. and having a built, strong frame is useless???
