Somebody saying they got the game early on ERA
got an early copy of the game on Tuesday (mom & pop stores breaking street date). I've played 7 hours so far and I've beaten the first of the four main bosses (no, that isn't a spoiler, the main goal of taking them down has been explained before in the marketing). Overall, I'd give this game a 7/10 so far. If it wasn't for the hit or miss writing, awkward voice acting and mediocre presentation (mainly facial and character animations in certain cutscenes) then it'd be an 8/10 because the parkour and the combat are pretty good. The parkour is simple but fun to use because of how Frey just glides through environments with well done animations. I especially like using the parkour to go through doors because Frey has a cool, flashy animation for opening them.
The combat is surprisingly challenging even on normal mode. Enemies hit hard and the parkour dodge won't protect you from every incoming attack, you still have to pay attention to the enemies. The enemy variety is decent so far: basic mobs of zombies, shield guys that you have to get around to do tons of damage, flying enemies, wild corrupted animals like deer and lion things. There's also optional bosses in short dungeons that you can delve into for more lore and XP. I like the magic so far though I wish they gave you the second skill tree sooner.
As for the open world, so far, it's full of typical open world stuff that you saw in the demo. A lot of checklist "go here and kill that" stuff. There's only a few activities that I liked such as going into magic ponds to unlock new abilities and taking photos. Also, the side quests have mostly been forgettable aside from one where I fed some cute sheep.
One thing I want to address is the criticism about the black female protagonist, Frey, having a criminal record. There's been criticism about this being stereotypical and unnecessary but if the story's themes (so far) are what I think they are then I think the game's opening scene in a courtroom with a judge makes sense. So far, the main themes of the story are about accountability and responsibility for your actions. When Frey arrives to the main fantasy setting, Athia, she tries to avoid helping its people because she doesn't see that as her responsibility even though they clearly need her help and will continue to suffer and possibly die without her. Athia's leaders, the Tantas, have been corrupted and have caused dark magic to poison the land and create dangerous creatures. Instead of stepping up, Frey rejects this responsibility and just wants to return home until things get personal and she decides to take on the first Tanta.
When it comes to Frey herself, a lot of the hit or miss dialogue comes from her and, to a lesser extent, her main companion, Cuff. In the opening hours, there's so many clunky, forced attempts at witty dialogue from her that scenes definitely get "cringe" as they say. The same goes for whenever the game tries to be funny. There were some moments here and there that got a genuine chuckle out of me but there were way more moments where I was like, "Ugh please stop!".
"Voosh!" Trust me, you'll know what I'm talking about when you get there.
The dialogue works best during the more serious scenes and I kinda like how standoffish and cynical Frey is during the opening hours. There's a very obvious parallel set up between her and another character in the early parts of the story. However, I still liked that aspect because Frey is clearly uncomfortable with emotional vulnerability, which makes sense given how she grew up.
I'm also surprised at how into the lore I am? There's a lot of text logs that you can read in the opening hours and it's interesting because a lot of it is about the Tantas, how they created the world and how they led Athia. It also helps that the Tantas look cool. In fact, the character design is mostly good especially Frey's main outfit with the cape. I also like how the starting city looks (there's a cool twisting tower prison!) and the open world environments look appropriately dead and foreboding.
I was expecting the story to be mostly boring and forgettable but there's just enough there that I'm interested to see what happens next. It's not amazing storytelling but it's alright so far.
would say that the mystery behind how the Tantas became corrupted is intriguing. There's scenes that happen in the intro and before the first main boss that make me suspect that Frey wasn't transported to another world by accident.
I've basically only been to two parts of the world: starting city Cipal and its mountainous surrounding area and the volcanic looking area Junnoon. I think the two areas are substantially different in terms of looks but I haven't done much in Junnoon. Also, I think preview images have shown other distinctly different biomes.

She’s black and the story sounds dope.
Plus the combat looks too fire.
No, admittedly, it's some weird shyt surrounding this game. That much is undeniable. However, I don't need every game to be a 90+ to find enjoyment from it either.People say they want new original IP’s and this is pretty original and people have not stop shyttin on it since inception.
It may not be the greatest game ever but theres too many weirdo agenda’s surrounding why people wanted this game to fail and im not convinced the hang ups are genuine
the dialogue was my biggest concern. it seemed cringe from the jump
