I'm not surprised. He was showing signs of erratic behavior during his run with the Texans that he never really showed before. You just have to wonder how bad some of these others guys are who are on the outs of their careers/recently retired :mjcry:

What did he do/show?

Pretty sure he got arrested for reckless driving, vehicular assault and a DUI from what I remember. He went pretty much his whole career out of trouble until the very end.

Damn, just saw:

"Former Denver Broncos Pro Bowl receiver Demaryius Thomas has been arrested on charges of vehicular assault, reckless driving and driving without insurance, according to Denver jail records."

Do what?

The solution to CTE is not playing football. Are the players gonna do that? CTE is no longer a secret. These guys know what they sign up for.

won't be shocked years from now generations will look at football the way we do gladiators, just barbaric and crazy

Boxing still exists right?

Football is entertaining and there's always going to people with a daredevil mentality willing to put their bodies on the line. It's not going anywhere.

More than likely developed from his football years then exacerbated by his car accident. NFL needs to randomly test players for CTE regularly... they prolly won't because they know what they'll find...

You can't test for CTE as of now. It's a pathologic diagnosis that is made by donated brains, not a clinical or biochemical one as of now.

There will be a time when that’s possible and they’ll do everything their power to prevent it

CTE is caused by repeated head trauma, why would a lot of people have it?
Becuz whose to say wat exactly repeated head trauma is. Maybe an unborn child can get repeated head trauma. A soccer player. A hockey player or a boxer. Or a lawyer that does these things on the weekend.

Wouldn't a CT scan and comprehensive physical including physiological factors (headaches, mood swings, memory loss, etc) at least raise a red flag? Look at AB for example, can't tell me if they did some analysis they wouldn't find some worrying factors.

Yes, I would agree it could be more likely for athletes in other professional sports that have their head hit often to potentially have CTE. However the normal person isn’t enduring repeated head traumas

The problem is CT scans don't show CTE. They're good for strokes and acute head injuries to rule out bleeds in the brain.

The problem with mood swings, headaches, memory loss are they are non specific and not diagnostic. But I agree they could raise red flags if they are present, but could also be from other conditions e.g. depression can cause all of those symptoms.

Another issue is some players try to flunk their initial baseline cognitive tests so that they can keep playing even if they have had head injuries that would result in poor performance on the test.

I wish and hope someone will develop a test that is able to detect CTE, whether through a functional MRI, blood test or even something such as a lumbar puncture
