The popular thought when this movie was announced was it would make a ton of $ because it was Bats and Supes. Your last statement seems to be in conflict with that idea.
Batman just came off nolans trilogy and is huge in the film world. Man of steel did almost 700 million. You put the two together of course they are going to make money.not to mention superman returns made only 391 million. So its not like man of steel made what it did just because.

So no,its not in conflict.

Again, explain why gotg did more than almost all of marvels solo films when it was the least known comic from what theyve made. Even less known than ant man.

Is it because films are a different format? Yes,they are.

:wtf: man of steel made almost double what the last superman made and more than like half of the mcu films.

Why do you keep dancing around my question about gotgs success compared to its comics?

It was not universally loved. A lot of people might have seen it but half of them left disappointed.
Oh sorry. Alot of factors timing of it's release (deep into the established MCU), not a lot of comp in the theaters, the quality of the movie, charismatic leads.

Niether was iron man2,iron man 3,thor 1,thor 2 etc. Even age of ultron had a much more mixed reception and made less than the first one.

Ant man is deep into the established mcu too but is one of its least grossing, even with having good reviews, strong word of mouth and a charismatic lead.

For the same reason Blade was huge when it first came out. It was a genre that non comic/superhero fans would enjoy a movie about. Blade being a vampire movie and Guardians being a space adventure. Movies in those lanes make money with no background connection every year so them staring unknown characters didn't hurt them and in Guardians case the Marvel connection helped boost them further.

What did he say that's wrong?

Sums it up pretty good here

If Man of Steel made $668 million worldwide in 2013, then logically a $750m or $800m total for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice would be seen as a marked improvement and thus a relative triumph (same as Thor: Ragnarok). But if Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is viewed as a glorified Justice League dry run, or even as a stand-alone Batman movie in this current box office environment, the expectations will be that much higher for what constitutes success. Again, that may sound like underestimating to the point of naivety, but Warner does not want a situation where anything under $1 billion is viewed as a disappointment. Of course, over the long haul, having a movie that connects with audiences and gets them excited about the next ten movies coming down the pike is more important than hitting an arbitrary benchmark, but that’s for another day.

Some of you so quick to :cape: on the defensive and cant even properly process what he's trying to say :heh:

If it is viewed as a sequel to Man of Steel(Man of Steel 2) by the studio which was seen as a disappointment and does big numbers then it will obviously look like a bigger success and shows a resurgence into that franchise and it doesn't get mixed into what they would expect from an actual Justice League movie.

But if some of you want another Man of Steel situation where it's predicted to be WB's highest grossing film evaaaa by the president of the studio, thus making the expectation of the film from the studio far greater than one that's viewed as disappointment which has far less then you can cook :ehhusure:

Ok. I disagree but you knew that already. lol
Antman had a lot of comp. Mainly Straight Outta Compton. And Jurassic World guy is more charismatic than Rudd.

Ok MOS was great and well received?
You asked a question and I answered it...the first Cap movie (pre-Avengers) made middle of the road blockbuster money despite being a much publicized piece of the grander Marvel Cinematic Universe plan. The 2nd Cap made a shytload of loot because the world at large had fully embraced the MCU after Avengers.

And how well-received or critically praised a film is has nothing to do with how much money it makes otherwise the Transformers movies would have made a combined $27.
