Joe was already deep in the process of Cheeks while Hollins was still coaching in the Playoffs. it was one of those things where either you were getting Shaw or Cheeks and Shaw wasn't coming here. Karl and Hollins were not expected to be fired and Joe had to make a move and not lose his "man"

I see where Hollins is coming from but there's been a few cats who head coach, then fall back until another team wants him. He clearly believes in his coaching being Memphis' success as opposed to having a good nucleus to coach. Only time will tell
