And speaking of concrete, Paul Williams BEAT Antonio Margarito for his belt in their championship fight even with Margs using concrete which is astutely more impressive than Mosley victory over Margarito imo

in da second fight, he was backing him up a little but cotto was taking his punches well and was countering and winning almost all of the rounds
thats hows the first fight SHOULD have gone
in the first fight, cotto was winning the majority of the rounds (even tho he was backing up a little bit) until about the middle of the fight (when the shyt got hard). cotto was literally backing up for his life and taking knees out of fear of getting hit again. not in his character at all.

bottom line, without concrete in his fist, i dont think cheato has the power to make cotto run like that out of fear of getting hit again and he definitely dont have the power to disfigure his face the way he did.big difference between backing someone up with regular gloves and tampered gloves. cheato musta known that too

mosley vs margarito is one of my fav fight so i may be bias, but mosley beat da living shyt out of him and KNOCKED him out. he was landing some VICIOUS blows and cheato never been da same since. more impressive w in my opinon.

Mayweather was trying to break way. Everyone knew it. Top Rank president Bob Arum, who would have loved to hang him with a loss on the way out the door, opted against risking a loss for Cotto instead.


“I think that was the tester,” Mayweather said. “Puerto Rican, identical style – if you go back and look at Henry Bruseles, identical style – comes from the Cotto camp, same trainer at that particular time, which was his uncle. And Bruseles, he tried. I gave him the opportunity. He tried but I was the better man.”

In the end, Arum stuck with the right guy. Not long after the Gatti win , Mayweather bought out his promotional contract. Cotto stayed with Top Rank until last year.


Once Cotto left, they pulled together the fight quickly.

“This fight could've happened a long time ago, when both fighters were with Top Rank at that particular time,” Mayweather said. “But I think Bob Arum saw that I wasn't any ordinary fighter. He saw that I was a sharp individual, had a sharp mind, and that eventually I was going to break off and become my own boss.”


Mayweather, back when he thought the fight might be on his immediate horizon, dismissed Cotto as a one-handed fighter, a powerful left-hooker but little more.
