This thread has turned into a war zone. With that being said, that "casual" shyt that boxing fans like to spout off is incredibly lame, and I'm talking about in general. What's the line of delineation between a "casual" and a tried and true boxing fan? They have to know who Harry Greb or someone more obscure like David Telesco is or some shyt? Have to watch those fights that come on public access TV that come on at 2:00 am? Those joints that are broadcast in Spanish. They have to post in the threads in the Ring? Why? I saw a thread that a dude started in the main forum about that trite ass Pac-Man and Floyd debate, and dudes were like, "You brought this to the casuals. You knew not to bring in to the Ring!" Wtf? That's beyond myopic. A person can be a genuine fan of boxing and not post on The Ring or any site for that matter. You never know who you're talking to over the net, so to assume because a person doesn't post on here they aren't a fan or try to label them with some sort of shaming tactic such as a "casual," takes an incredible amount of hubris. And as someone that has accounts on Eastside boxing, Doghouse boxing (had this one 10 years) and Boxing scene (respect to Obama da gawd), I don't think a person has to have Fres Oquendo's complete career on a flash drive -- that they carry around in a bio-marker authenticating suitcase to refer to themselves as something as amorphous as "fan."
To deny there are such things as "casual fans" is crazy.
You are a Florida State fan such as myself. If you were discussing College Football with someone who was a Jameis Winston fan and claimed to know all about the Noles (because its their favorite team he claims), you wouldn't believe he's a casual fan/bandwagon fan if you started talking about the season from last year and he couldn't tell you who the starting WRs or TE or even RB was?
That's the same thing here.
People come in here all the time claiming they "know boxing". Ok...cool. When we start a conversation about Lucas Matthysse struggling against John Molina Jr., they're nowhere to be found. Only when the thread has Floyd's name in it do they pop up. That's not wrong either, because some posters who do that HAVE shown they know about Floyd and dont follow him because he's the trend right now.
What shows if they are casual or not is when they come in saying bullshyt like "Floyd is the GOAT, Manny is garbage and always has been until he used steroids". We question them like "what do you mean, look at Manny resume before he linked up with Ariza" and they respond back with "Manny aint beat nobody without steroids".
Hell, nikkas came in The Ring saying "Manny fought like an amateur" just because Floyd said it. I know because I asked the dude why does he think that and he couldn't give a valid reason....which means he was just parroting Floyd's opinion like all casual/bandwagon Floyd stans do
