The fight appears to be closer than ever. The super match, Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao, could be announced as early as this week.
Pacquioa's trainer, Freddie Roach, has already begun the early scouting of sparring partners and he's also starting to study some of Mayweather's recent fights.
The last time Roach was starting to put together a training camp to fight Mayweather was in 2009/2010, when the two sides were almost close to a finalized deal.
Roach is changing things around when it comes their fight strategy and he's not paying any attention to Mayweather's fights from that time period. He believes Mayweather is no longer the same man.
"I've done a little bit of research on Floyd and a little bit of research on sparring partners, because the Floyd that I watched five years ago is a little different than the Floyd that I watch today. I've been watching a lot more [recent] fights and not old fights. He still doesn't make a lot of mistakes. He has a couple of flaws, but with [Pacquiao's] southpaw stance it might help him in some ways and it might hurt him in some ways," Roach told BoxingScene.com.
"It's a very tactical fight and I have to come up with a perfect game plan for this one. This is going to be one of the biggest challenges ever. I like challenges and my guy can pull it off. It won't be easy."
