Marquez: Tough For Pacquiao To Beat Mayweather in Vegas
Posted by: Rene Umanzor on 1/19/2015

By Rene Umanzor

According to former four division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez, it's going to be very tough for Manny Pacquiao to defeat Floyd Mayweather Jr. in his hometown of Las Vegas.

Marquez faced Mayweather in 2009 and lost a lopsided twelve round unanimous decision. The Mexican veteran fought Pacquiao four times - in 2004, 2008, 2011 and 2012. Their fourth and final battle saw Marquez score an explosive knockout of Pacquiao in the sixth round.

Marquez often complained of Pacquiao getting favoritism in Las Vegas and sees the same thing happening to the Filipino boxer if he steps in the ring with Mayweather.

"It is very difficult to penetrate the guard of Mayweather, but with the speed that Pacquiao has - he can do it. The coin is in the air, but I know both of those fighters and it is difficult to be able to beat Floyd Mayweather, and even more so because he is a protected fighter in Las Vegas," Marquez said.

Rene Umanzor covers boxing in Mexico for The Record.

Pacquiao being "favored" in Vegas?:dwillhuh:

Didnt he get robbed by Bradley in Vegas?

As far as Floyd goes, I havent seen Floyd win a fight yet that I though he lost except the 1st fight with Jose Luis Castillo and I thought he should've been disqualified against Zab Judah as well due to Roger Mayweather entering the ring, DURING the round, and attacking Judah. I wouldn't really say "favoritism" for him. 1 judge gave my boy Canelo the fight over Floyd, in a fight he received a boxing clinic in, and that was in Vegas:yeshrug:

from the home of coca-cola, i'm not referring to s
floyd left hbo first :dwillhuh: thats a stupid point :what:
Exactly.
you said you knew it was gonna come to this when Pac re-signed with the company he's always been with, but you didn't know it when Floydie left HBO and went to Showtime before fighting Pac?? You're putting all the blame on Pac for staying loyal, while completely giving Floyd a pass for leaving HBO and making the fight much harder to ever be made

it doesn't matter.. Both Pacquiao and Floyd were with HBO and Floyd chose to leave HBO before fighting Pacquiao.

He signed that deal with Showtime in February 2013.

The last negotiation before Floyd left was in January 2011, Floyd offered him $40 million flat...Pacquiao refused asking for a 55/45 split across the board. That was it. The Manny Pacquiao went on to go 2-2 in his next 4 fights beating Mosley in May 2011, JMM in November 2011, a loss to Timothy Bradley in June 2012 and a KO loss to Juan Manuel Marquez in December 2012.

The didnt come back to the table, because Manny was on a downhill slope and still has Juan Manuel Marquez problems to this day. Floyd, however, is willing to take this fight now (regardless of Pac's JMM problems)....but HBO doesnt have any faith in Pacquiao getting the W:yeshrug:

:mjlol: at all the pump faking this god forsaken fight has had over the last 6 years.

Give me Manny/Crawford and Floyd/Khan this year and I'll be straight. No need for them to keep the charade going.

None of this shyt matters because at the end of the day Floyd left.. He started this cold war between the networks, not Pacquiao.. you sitting here saying HBO has no faith when nobody from Showtime or HBO have said anything about details regarding the networks rebroadcasting the fight... Yall can keep posting that opinionated article from boxingscene all you want
