Expecting a more pass-heavy attack today if Hurts doesn’t start.
Minshew, while not being a good QB, is a more developed passer than Hurts is and should be able to see guys if they come open. The Jets have the 31st ranked pass defense, per DVOA. And the Eagles RBs are banged up and won’t have the advantage that Hurts’ rushing ability gives them. Sirianni, while he shouldn’t abandon the run by any means, also shouldn’t have to feel that he needs to run the ball 70% of the time in this game. NYJ can be beaten through the air, too.
This is going to be an interesting game. Not so much because we’ll see Minshew for the first time (I think we all know Minshew isn’t a starter), but because we’ll get to see if and how Sirianni adjusts his gameplan for a different type of QB. I’m thinking the offensive scheme today will resemble the pass-first type of offense he was calling in Weeks 1-7.
