the thing is, if trump makes it official, then none of them are even gonna run. desantis, cruz, little marco, haley, theyll all just grovel at trump's feet and save their money til 2028
i heard chris christie say trump has to win in 2024 like anyone else. he might have the balls to put up a challenge. but i cant think of a single other republican who wont just flop on the floor
I don't see DeSantis waiting even for trump.
Honestly I think the party has moved past trump but they know things are too touchy to admit it.
It's like a dead marriage but both parties not ready to sign the papers bc of the kids and their own selfish reasons. Husband (GOP) knows it's cheaper to keep her, wife (trump) knows it's the only way to maintain her lifestyle/title and BOTH have secrets they don't want divulged.

Melania is one of the reasons I'm so sure he won't run. I'm sure there is a side of him that wants so badly to run in hopes that he wins and can throw it in everyone's face until he dies. But the party knows he's toxic to everyone but his core 35-40%. After 2022 midterms, when his preferred candidates get washed, they will make a clean break.

You're underestimating how cultish Republican voters are when it comes to Trump. It's unlikely that any non-MAGA candidates will even get past the primaries.
