Here are a bunch of positive reviews I found for the film:

The consensus seems to be that it's actually imaginative and explicitly does not try to follow in the footsteps of the original, but rather tries to do its own thing (which is commendable, and the only thing that can justify a remake) but that it still isn't entirely successful at what it wants to do. It's supposed to be relatively cerebral and philosophical and touches on both metaphysical and current political issues. Still, seems like it's not actually bad, definitely not as bad as most people expected... it's just not excellent.

I'm personally ok with remakes as long as they don't try and redo everything the original did (unfortunately, most remakes are just bad copycat films). The idea of a Robocop film that updates the themes and has a completely different story is ok with me, and definitely isn't an insult to the original or anything like that. Same principle as a hip-hop remix or a rock or soul cover song. The original is still going to be the original.

I remember when the og dropped that shyt was so RAW. I seen it again on dish and my lawd that movie gangsta!
I already knew this remake couldn't capture what made the first one dope, he would have to be blowing nikkaz headz off not robots. In the original when he searched the database on the thugs that swisses chessed him, the leader had every felony of a physcopath. I laughed so hard my girl tbought i was crazy. The unintentional comedy was on unlimited

The review actually doesn't make it sound bad at all. I loved the first Robocop and how violent it was, but I always felt like it could have done a lot more as a social commentary. Instead it was a bit cartoonish in that sense. Sounds like this is the opposite.

DREDD was more, along the lines of what a new Robocop film should be like.

I can see why they would make this PG-13 though. R-rated action movies are a hard sell this generation. Even DREDD found more success on DVD/Blu ray than the theater where it was pretty much a flop.

Movie Audiences are too pussified this generation. They need an R-Rated film like "John Rambo" to shake shyt up.
