I believe after we successfully can navigate the asteroid field that eventually leads to Mars consistently, and do further exploration from Mars, the idea is that we should be able to map space much more effectively

not true at all. we have technology right now monitoring all the above days before they happen. we are literally a decade away from colonizing. did you not see the video? we have now discovered there's water, lots of water on mars. that pretty much all we need. Mark Kelly is currently on the ISS seeing if we can plant and eat space veggies, so far the research has concluded we can. we're just about there. I dont expect some catastrophe for another thousand years yet we are sending men to mars in my life time.

A few days is not enough time to mobilize a mission to Mars. And your expectations are underestimating how frequently cosmic catastrophes happen. A solar flare almost took most of the world off the grid in 2013. Not to mention Mars' own little natural disasters

thats what they said about the space station and rescue mission which we can head too in less than 10 hours of preparations. the plan is to get to that point, but obv we need to first have bodies on the ground and complete a handful of missions too mars before we master that.
