Memphis
Memphis has had a rough year but if you take away:

1 point loss to Temple
2 point overtime loss to Tulsa
ECU game that we let slip away

We wouldn't have double digit losses and would be a legit bubble watch team. Pastner gotta figure out a way to steal this tournament and save his career.

The University of Memphis’ worst men’s basketball season since 2000 began with a foreboding exhibition loss to Division 2 Christian Brothers in November and ended Sunday when the Tigers failed to make the NIT.

For ASU basketball, all roads should lead to Josh Pastner

Arizona State coach Herb Sendek is expected to learn if he will be relieved of his duties at a Tuesday morning meeting with athletic director Ray Anderson, multiple sources told ESPN Monday night.

A number of industry sources told ESPN that staff members have already leaked that they expect Sendek to be fired. But ESPN was unable to confirm that late Monday and calls and text messages to Sendek weren't returned.

Sendek has been with the Sun Devils for nine seasons and gone to the NCAA tournament in 2009 and '14. The Sun Devils have beaten rival Arizona the past two seasons in Tempe. ASU was 18-16 overall this season, 9-9 in the Pac-12 and lost at Richmond in overtime in the second round of the NIT after winning at UConn.

If the Sun Devils move on Sendek, a number of names have already emerged as possible candidates, including Memphis coach Josh Pastner and UC Irvine's Russell Turner.

Sendek's contract was extended by one year to June 30, 2017 by the board of regents earlier in the season.

he basketball graveyard at Arizona State University is full of broken dreams. It has now claimed a Big Ten coach of the year (Bill Frieder), an SEC coach of the year (Rob Evans) and an ACC coach of the year (Herb Sendek).

The job is too much for most grown men. Maybe it's time to try a former wonder boy.

Remember Josh Pastner, the absurdly ambitious, relentlessly positive kid at the end of Lute Olson's bench? The self-made millionaire that became the head coach at Memphis at age 31? The one currently looking for a clean escape from a bad situation?

He is the perfect next choice for the Sun Devils.

Memphis forward Austin Nichols says he intends to transfer

http://espn.go.com/mens-college-bas...-forward-austin-nichols-said-intends-transfer

Memphis junior forward Austin Nichols intends to transfer.

Nichols made the announcement Tuesday afternoon on ESPN Radio 92.9 in Memphis, Tennessee.

"It was in the best interest of my family and I to decide to transfer from the University of Memphis," he told the radio station. "I want to thank everyone for supporting me in my two years at Memphis. The coaching staff, fans, family and friends. As for me, I think it's best if I move on from here."

Nichols, who averaged 13.3 points and 6.1 rebounds last season before suffering a season-ending ankle injury, was expected to be a candidate for American Athletic Conference Player of the Year. He informed Tigers coach Josh Pastner of his decision about a week ago, sources told ESPN.

Memphis has refused his request to transfer due to the timing. All of the high school players for this season have made their decisions, and there are few high-level transfers left as well.

"The school isn't going to release him,'' Pastner told ESPN's Andy Katz on Tuesday night. "We spoke with Austin in mid-June and everything was fine. We named him captain after the season. We don't know what has changed.''

Pastner said the entire coaching staff was caught off guard by the decision.

"He's a potential player of the year in our league. He's been nothing but great the first two years we have had him,'' said Pastner. "He's been terrific on the floor.''

Pastner said the president and athletic director support the decision not to release him. He added that the staff hasn't heard from Nichols since he made his announcement.

A source told ESPN that Baylor, Marquette and Notre Dame were among the schools which called to check on Nichols' release, but the school wouldn't grant one.

The coaching staff is supposed to head off on the road recruiting Wednesday for the first July evaluation period, but now has a gaping unexpected hole for the upcoming season.

Nichols' departure would be a huge blow to Pastner and the program. Memphis finished 18-14 last season and 10-8 in league play, and the Tigers failed to make the NCAA tournament for the first time in five seasons.

Information from ESPN's Andy Katz was used in this report.
