Im not against it per se. but my preference is workers having more power, not people sitting home not working period. i do feel its prob not gonna be used to actually help people and is more of a safety net for automation, not cause the corps care but because they dont want a chaotic revolt

This is my worry too, UBI could just be used to give the minimum necessary instead of as a real progressive investment. That Andrew Yang cat was on Joe Rogan and sounds like he cares, but he also mentioned (paraphrasing so this is my impression and others can tell me if they interpret differently) that he'd fold in the costs of all other programs like SNAP and Welfare into this program (and giving those people the equivalent value to what they got beforehand). That reduces the cost of his plan to give every American (18 yrs and older) 1000 dollars a month, but it also means that it's not giving the people in poverty more...it's just giving them what they're getting now and also throwing a thousand to everyone else. That doesn't sound like a good model to me since I think UBI's biggest impact can be expected for the lowest earners.

UBI is possibly the best answer to automation. Machines are taking people's jobs and it's just not blue collar jobs either. So instead of work camps basic wages.

I agree with you it feels like a cop out but hopefully they figure out a better option.

im not against it, if its that or people starve im in favor of it, even if I keep my job, which i dont want to talk about my outside life too much here but my job will prob never in my lifetime be automated but still yes i dont want people dying cause of automation, but im just saying, if its just like heres some crumbs so you dont die and we still keep the same exact system where such few have all the power and wealth, its just not smthg i would be enthusiastic on, like the reason im for universal health care and education, cause its like ok that will hopefully enable more people to be successful, so if somehow ubi was allowing that, id just me more excited about it

I'm really intrigued at the value UBI can have, but also extremely skeptical of some of its proponents interests. The model is gonna be important to watch, but there are definitely some stories and examples that give me real optimism about it as long as we keep on top of them about the details. Someone put me on to this story, I think from this forum; and it's definitely got me wanting to figure out the best way to make it work.
