This shyt is really dope, what do you think the best mic is for under $500?

if we're talking about just home vocals, the at2020 is pretty damn good. for the all-around 'recording all kinds of shyt' mic, i like the sm57. that thing is a workhorse, solid as fukk, and it's decent-to-excellent on almost every sound source.

i mean, even as relavtively cheap mics they're both still mainstays in a lot of big, legit studios.

That really depends the software you want to use. In a general sense most studios I've been too run Apple computers. Pro tools tends to be more stable on Mac OS. Logic X is a great program for recording and producing. It's all personal preference though. There isn't a one size fits all solution for recording or producing.

Yes. You might like fruity loops better. That's the software I used to learn to make beats myself. They have demo versions on their site.

I've never used it.
My experience is with Garage Band, Fruity Loops, Reason, Logic, and Pro Tools.
