True rpg nikkas know this shyt should be labeled something else. ( however the titan fight was dope)
It's an action game, it really is best people just accept it as that because it is a very good action game.

I feel like the game is a half measure. It wants to be an action game but for some reason it doesn't want to abandon some of the mechanics RPGs have. Those legacy things like the side quests are the things that hold it back to just being a good game from a great one. Instead of focusing on being the best action game it can be the focus is split between being a good action game with mediocre RPG mechanics that weigh it down.

I also wonder about tying the move sets to bosses like they did. I never even bothered using the last Eikon's abilities. For many of the Eikons it never felt like you actually needed to use them. For some you get their abilities incredibly late into the game because for story purposes they wouldn't give you them earlier. Easier to just use the ones you have in the game much longer.

The side quests are excellent. And action games having side quests isn't strange at all, particularly nowadays.

I know I'm late playing this game, but had to get settled in after a move. A couple questions:

Can you change the gear and abilities of other teammates or only Clive?
Do the sidequest in the game pick up as the ones I've completed thus far have been rather mehh?

Nah you can’t change anything regarding your team mates, side quests are all of a similar nature which is kill monsters but you have the odd one or two stand outs. One in particular related to branded that really surprised me. You are in for a treat hope you enjoy.

side quests are better towards the end when you get a closure to all the side characters you have met

It's wild the older final fantasy gets the less we see summonable attacks you can call on a whim. Now the damn summon just shows up for a boss fight. Foh.

I noticed as i replayed 6 and 4 that i hardly used the summons. Felt like they were always at odds with the game even dating back to the 16 bit games. Its either they take up a lot of time to summon, (animations), cost a shyt load of MP, and do negligible damage or they are way too op like in FF7R and FFXV.
