I don't believe this rumor, but if it's true I think it's not a good idea.

Square already has a bad track record of delaying the fukk out of everything. I don't expect FF7 part 2 til 2030 if this is true.

Great, another excuse to delay ff7 part 2 :comeon:

Square is a huge company they have multiple teams working on different projects. If this is released it shouldn’t impact part 2 of the remake.

Apologies if there is already a thread I did run a search but you all know the coli search engine.:francis: Anyway I am seeing rumours online that a possible announcement could come this summer, what are your expectations for this series going forward after the success of 7 remake?Final Fantasy 16 Announcement Coming This Summer, Says Rumor

It's entirely possible that Final Fantasy XVI is on the way. After all, even though Final Fantasy VII Remake is Numbered-Title Status due to just the sheer magnitude of importance and effort that is going into this project... They're still pretty limited in what they can do plot-wise. Not to mention, Square has more than one team working on different titles at the same time. Kingdom Hearts, in particular, now has four teams dedicated to that franchise (and we're apparently going to get a new game "surprisingly soon").

Also to keep in mind is that other than the Avengers game, we don't have any new AAA titles that are announced for the next foreseeable future from Square Enix. Kingdom Hearts III, Final Fantasy XV, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Dragon Quest XI and Nier Automata are all released. There's the Nier Replicant Remake/Remaster that was announced back in March, but we don't know when that's coming at all. Babylon's Fall is in development, but we know absolutely nothing about it other than some gameplay. FF7R Part 2 is clearly some years away. If anything, they're in the perfect position where they should be announcing a slew of new titles that are on the way.

Plus with the PS5 launching late this year, I think there's no better time than now to announce XVI. We probably would've found out yesterday if this is true, but due to the protests going on, everything is (rightfully) on hold for now.

When's the last time we got a FF/KH project that wasn't delayed?

Yeah, but they're usually a month-long delay, not six months. FFXV had a two month delay because of the development hell and still had issues at launch. FFXIV expansions don't get delayed either, I think.

See if we were getting Cyberpunk 2077 and Watch Dogs Legions levels of delayed releases, that's one thing. But even though month delays suck, the games usually come out better for it. I'd rather that than a rushed game at release and that's when we all say "Yeah they needed to delay this... :francis:" No Man's Sky comes to mind.

If that rumour is true the combat system should at least be very interesting.
