Depends. If you're in it more for the story it's a huge disappointment. If you want a somewhat limited open world game it works. Honestly I'd wait and get this on sale. It's not a must play game in my eyes. It's not even the best JRPG I've played this year which I still feel is Tokyo Mirage Sessions FE#.

My thoughts exactly, check the post I made a few posts up, the last chapter is great and is what you'd expect from a ff game, unfortunately it falls short as you actually go through it tho.

It's not even that the actual story is bad. It's the rushed and condensed way the game presents the story to you. The early portion of the game has minimal story and then once it kicks in it just rushes through it. I'd say the real story starts at chapter 9. Until that point you are just kinda roaming around with a vague goal. chapter 9-12 and chapter 14 are all very short. Chapter 13 is a bit longer but it's frustrating.
Here I'm going to describe the events of chapters 1-8 in a very general sense. I'll spoiler it but unless you wanna be completely blind going is it doesn't matter because almost nothing happens. I won't talk about chapter 9 or after.
Chapters 1-8 the story is this. We gotta get to Luna but we can't take a ship because it's can's set sail yet. Insomnia gets invaded and we gotta now find royal arms while we make our way to Luna. At some point Noctis gets headaches and now we stop looking for royal arms and meet with a few summons. At chapter 9 you finally get to Luna and the main story actually starts.

I beat the game and never saw Titan come out. He's the only one I never saw. There's only 6 of them and 1 you can't get, 1 can only be used once and the other 4 you can use. I mostly saw the last 2 that you get.

I've gotten Titan and Ramuh a few times to come out....I haven't unlocked any of the other summons since I'm only on Chapter 5 tho. They pretty much are just bail outs when you are getting your ass whipped in a fight.
I'm still in chapter 3 with level 37, keep doing the side quests cause I'm waiting for the patch.
