Lost an hour of progress due to the gane crashing.

Once you get the whole crew together can you basically just go do the final dungeon?

4-6 basically. Think 2 is the best of the other ones.
A lot people throw dirt on 2 but for what it had to work with at the time it's a pretty good game

I think 3 is the worst classic FF, that's a true by the numbers throwaway rpg right there. 1 has the benefit of being the first so it gets a pass

Finally finished it. Classic JRPG, basically a 9.5 game and probably objectively the best Final Fantasy game, although I'd need to replay 10 again.

Basically loved everything about it but I thought the cast and lack of character development was a bit of a letdown. Kind of felt half assed - or sometimes no character development - for a lot of the characters outside of Terra, Cyan and Shadow. Wish they had done more with the likes of Celes and Relm for example, amongst others.

Other slight letdowns were the last boss battles (boring/easy) and the fact that I had to grind a good bit before the final dungeon, but that is a standard JRPG trope.

Yeah - with a party that size, a lot of the members don't even have many memorable interactions with each other either after a certain point

I dunno about Celes's development though - I thought the Opera bit, and how it opens with her in the World of Ruin is :wow:

Yeah but I feel like she was forgotten about it as the second half of the game went on, as were the brothers.

The cast is too long for no reason, 100%. What is the point of Gau for example? It should have been 8 characters max.

True. I swear I read that they only did the World of Ruin shyt because they had more time than they thought in development

Shadow had the deepest development and pretty much all of it was optional.. Which - to me - is genius

Gau wore a suit and his dad told him to kick rocks. I'm :russ: at that though

Main reason why i couldn’t really see a full fledged AAA remake of this game, its all over the place narratively. There’s too many characters that don’t really have satisfying character arcs which wouldn’t really fly today.

Back then it was no problem to have 14 characters and have them not really mean much outside of the novelty of having a big party. Now a days people have higher expectations for sidequest stories and things of that nature.

I can just imagine how confused a modern gamer would be to randomly run into Gogo, have them join and thats basically it.

They would really have to start from scratch with this game to make it digestible in modern game design.
