Lets get one thing straight 1st and foremost... Castro's ideology and how he wanted Cuba to be initially was based on socialism, the sole reason why he transformed Cuba into a communist country is because of needing that relationship with the Soviety Union since the United States were hard set to invade his country by any means necessary so he needed that protective ally and adopted their way of governing in order for his country to thrive.
The only fair criticism you can make about Castro is stripping the country away from having freedom of speech, and even that's mostly due to ensuring the stability of the country, seeing surrounding countries from Central and South America continuously be unstable, largely due to false American propaganda. He doesn't want media manipulation at all and want his voice be the only voice. Again, this is a FAIR criticism to have, but not to suggest he's some kind of tyrannical evil overlord which this country wants to depict him as.
His regime is indeed totalitarian, but here's my issue whenever people wants to put tags and titles on governing... there is NO SUCH THING AS A PERFECT WAY OF GOVERNING. Having a totalitarian government doesn't mean it is an evil government. Having a communist ideology or a socialist ideology doesn't equate to having an evil ideology. Because as much as this country supports CAPITALISM, as much as we claim this country as a DEMOCRATIC-REPUBLIC, we have huge issues in how this country is governed, how the election process is handled, and how people aren't being shared their basic civil and HUMAN rights on his U.S. soil. So, say what you want about Fidel, but history has shown he has the interests of the people 1st in mind, and those who chose to betray, revolt, and dismantle it... he handled them accordingly, no so much different from how THIS GOVERNMENT has handled those who opposed them.
What bothers me the most is how can we blindly condemn someone when we live in a country that done and continue to do far worse..... I am not saying you support President Obama, but there are MILLIONS that support Obama without any hesitancy, yet he has a lot of blood on his hands and done LESS in doing anything for black people here in these States and done the complete opposite in doing things in Africa from that of Fidel. What Fidel have done and achieved and pushed despite everything that the United States tried to destroy outweighs any kind of imperfections he had. This is a small country that been providing humanitarian aid to neighboring countries that are struggling worse that the United States ignore... a small country that help in the liberation of several African countries as well as instrumental of abolishing Apartheid in South Africa. How he ran his regime is one thing, and stripping people's freedom of speech is something to criticize him for... but for nearly 60 YEARS, literally 50 years of his control....and Cuba is still standing. You gotta give credit.
You have absolutely no sense of perspective if you think the US "humans rights abuses" compares in any way to Cuba's. I gaurantee you haven't read three books on the history of the 20yh century / Cold War in your entire life. What you are doing is the equivilant of defending Hitler and saying "he unified the country tho". It's so astonishingly ignorant I don't even know where to start. Castro raped 30k women, you want to pick a diamond from a dunghill and bizarrely compare that to the US/Obama accidentally killing citizens in drone strikes while taking out sadistic/genocidal terrorists... you're oblivious.
