This sounds like projection. I’ve probably owned more Xbox’s than you have:sas2:

I own every console, every generation. Microsoft has been ass for 10 years so thers never been a need the own an xbox one, we’ll see if they put out anything after starfield that makes it worth keeping. :francis:

These comments are from back in May and also Square Enix says this for all of their titles, "failed to meet expectations" is a running gag at this point. That doesn't point to Rebrith/XVI being sales flops in terms of units. Square just has super high expectations that are often pretty crazy. Also this is a comment to their share holders, not public consumers.

PS5 has a smaller install base than PS4, Rebirth is a continuation of an entry that half of the PS4 install base probably hasn't jumped on PS5 yet and on top of that, people thinking this means it would've sold way better and "met" their expectations are delusional. Xbox wouldn't have done anything meaningful and PC at best would've been a few 100K.

3.4 million for Tomb Raider which released on multiple platforms "failed" to meet expectations.

Square Enix Games Sell Strong But Fail to Hit Targets - IGN (Hitman, Sleeping Dogs, TR "failed" meet expectations)

I read somewhere that they were comparing their returns to what it would be like if they invested that dev cost into the stock market. There is a lot of variables at play here.
