I'd rather kids be prepped to be financially responsible and career focused than geared up for some stupid test. A kid who scores high on an SAT and goes to a big name liberal arts college and comes out working at Starbucks is worse to me than a kid who does bad on SATs, goes to a community college and comes out of a state school w/a career

Standardized testing is so fukking useless, half of it is just getting used to the format.

Kids need to learn trades, languages, critical thinking skills not read and response to non- real world knowledge

Exactly,

I had a high ass score, perfect in some areas. Got letters from everywhere. I really struggled my first two years (in college).... w easy bs classes.

Yeah but on average people with lower SAT scores do academically worse than people with higher scores. As the scoring margin gets bigger, so does the the academic gap. Your anecdote doesn't change the trend.

Prepping for life and doing well on standardized testing are not mutually exclusive. Most high profile professional jobs like doctor, lawyer, banker require a person to do well on standardized testing (MCAT, LSAT, GRE). We should encourage youth and children to do well on this testing. The Asians start early and excel, that's why they're on top.

I mean withinthe context of the American system it's important; I just think it's stupid that it's so highly prioritiezed. You can do well on standardized tests and not be very bright or useful.

Within the context of the American system doing well on standardized testing is pretty much a required part of normal high salary professional jobs. That's really all that matters. Ace the test and become a god or fail it and live among the peasants. The choice is yours.
