WE CAN NOT FORGET
The Torture Of Abner Louima—-In 1997, Abner Louima was one of 2 men who police said interfered with officers trying to break up a fight between 2 women outside a nightclub called Club Rendez-vous in NYC. Both men were arrested on charges of assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and obstructing justice. The officers beat Louima, placed him in the squad car and took him to the police station where the torture would be taken to another level. It was there that Louima says the officers pulled down his pants and led him to the bathroom, where they sodomized him with a broken plunger, and then jammed the feces smeared handle in his mouth, knocking out several teeth. Officer Volpe was convicted of sodomizing Louima, which resulted in tearing a 1inch hole in his rectum and bladder. He was hospitalized for 2 months after the incident. The cop was sentenced to 30 years in prison. Louima’s subsequent civil suit against the City of New York ended in a settlement of $8.75 million on July 30, 2001, the largest police brutality settlement in New York City history. Black History…365
