Well, friend, lets argue when we're wrong not for the sake or argument. Lets agree more than we disagree, friend.

Ok friend. One of NY's toughest tasks is getting unlicensed firearms out of the hands of bad guys. How should law enforcement go about doing that?

Larger penalties need to be enforced on licensed gun owners who "can't find or lose their gun"

majority of guns used in crime in NYC come from out of state.....north Carolina ..south Carolina Virginia...Kentucky...hmm. I wonder what color are these ppl

1. Raise the price they give people that turn in unlicensed weapons. Incentive programs have done wonders to crush entire movements. There isnt much incentive to turn in an unlicensed gun, friend. Leaders want to change the world for a couple dollars.

or

Use drone technology with an ability to see through walls and identify weapons at a molecular level. Cross reference the data in a system that verifies if the address belongs to a registered gun owner. If not have a help desk company attempt to verify the people in the residence and identify if the user is a registered gun owner. If so verify what type of gun it is and have the owner show the weapon to an officer while a drone views the gun with its microscopic from above. If the gun does not move and the owner verifies a different weapon with an officer you know the weapon in question may be illegal.

If no weapons are claimed by the owner of the home, have an officer go to the home and report that there is a weapon at the residence that needs to be recovered.

I dont see any other ways besides that.

Well Ny law enforcement can't really do anything right? They can only deal with the guns that come across, they can't really "prevent" the shipment.

Of the nearly 9,000 guns recovered and traced in New York last year, 407 originated in Virginia, according to a new reportreleased by the Department of Justice. It’s a minuscule decrease from 2010, when 415 guns recovered in New York guns were traced back to Virginia.

Pennsylvania was the second biggest exporter of firearms to New York with 368 guns, and North Carolina was third with 328. Just 1,595 guns recovered last year originated from within the state.

Right, of course not. But NYPD has to operate under the assumption that there are citizens carrying unlicensed firearms(which obviously, there are). The punishment of carrying an unlicensed gun in NY has obviously deterred gun violence, but any gun violence is always too much, no?

SON...you asked how do we get guns out the hand of unlicensed owners...

I just told you...by attacking the problem from the root...these guns are getting sold by gun owners and gun stores...both might be equally culpable...but that wasn't your question....

it was how do we solve this problem...and I just explained it to you...and that was the best you could come up with.....:wtf:

Did I ever disagree with you? This conversation is strictly about battling gun violence in NYC....(and I do think NYPD works with precincts in the south already)

What's the NYPD supposed to do in that regard- wipe there hands and say "well somone else is taking care of that down south"

not really

the rise in the quality of living because of the economic boom of the 90s has deterred gun violence....our generation not wanting to be involved with destructive acts of violence has deterred that

belief in a promising future, not the fear of punishment, motivates populations to do better

that's not really related to what we were just discussing though( and yes, there are multiple reasons behind the drop in gun violence in NYC)

It is. It is 100% interconnected.

We're talking about getting illegal guns out of Ny right? You position the question as if it is NYPDs main priority. And I'm simply saying that that mentality is exactly WHY you'll keep running into a brick wall.

The NYPDs job only becomes easier if/as they build relationships with task forces in other states that are responsible for stopping the transport of illegal guns.

The NYPDs job only becomes easier if the electorate in those states realize that THEY CONTRIBUTE to the use of illegal guns in NY.

The NYPDS job only becomes easier once socioeconomic conditions that create environments where illegal guns are used, seize to exist.

Ramping up the # of search and seizures does nothing to address the route of the problem. Its just working harder and not working smarter. Punishment does not deter crime. It just makes it more profitable.

.

That would create a great arbitrage opportunity for illegal weapons dealers, as they would just buy them in Southern states and sell them up north to the government for ridiculous margins, friend,
