Of course I could be completely wrong but I feel like among rap fans we would have appreciated the bars but on the mainstream level no one would have cared about whatever bars J Cole rattled off while the other guys are trading personal shots. The mainstream was able to look at it and become invested because it was like a live soap opera then Kendrick came with a song people could sing along with and it was a wrap

In retrospect I think the best thing he could have done was not bow out and see what they had to say and go from there, maybe Kendrick would have been game for taking both of them out, but I just don't see them paying him any mind for real. It would have been stuff like "metro shut up and make some drums" status for Cole .
Maybe the shots aren’t as personal if Cole is in. Maybe Drake lets Cole take lead on Kendrick and he fires off more on the other folks dissing him. Them on a track together cooking everyone coulda been epic. Who knows how it could’ve went if Cole didn’t bend the knee.

NO ONE gives a shyt about Cole backing out

Drake should really be the one whos legacy is at stake

also Fat Joe hasn't made a hot record in a decade. Thanks to social media, some of the old heads look pretty stupid in 2024

And still had a better career than fat Joe
i dunno. i've heard a lot of joe's music, and i cant think of any low points in his discography that are as bad as "Grippy"

honestly i think less of Cole for "Grippy" than i do for backing down from kendrick

Of course not but the Ls are way different. Say what want about him but Drake accepted the challenge and held his own vs a superior opponent. Cole got on stage offered his chin for Kendrick basically begging for forgiveness. An absolute embarrassment. I haven’t listened to a single song from might delete later since.

You right. I don't even know why Cole got involved unless he thought it was just some regular rap shyt. Them L's are definitely different but they are still Ls. Hate that for J Cole.

Besides Coles diss being kinda ehh, he shouldn't have apologies publicly like that. He should have just not responded to Euphoria if he didn't want to battle like this.

I'd imagine this has been said multiple times over the last few months but again...the thing that makes Cole's decision more egregious is that he has spent the last 2-3 years on some pure rappity rap "I'm the best MC, I'll kill anyone on a track" shyt. you can't have that energy and then back out of a beef talking about "the old me" lmao. nikka that's not the old you, that's been you for the last couple years! And the minute you felt challenged, you folded. That's ugly...

He should have kept out of it. Everyone knew who Kendrick's main target was. And if we keep it a buck, both Drake and Kendrick kind of lil bro'd Cole in this shyt. Drake rapped about Cole losing sleep, Kendrick rapped about Drake doing him dirty....they were not talking about this man like a peer, they talked about him like he's Fredo Corleone. The good, kind hearted weak nikka who has to go home when the big boys come out to play. That shyt BOTHERS me. It has to bother him. The rap game waited a decade for a battle and not only did you weirdly butt your head into shyt, you then exited like a child who wanders downstairs when the grownups are playing cars and smoking. You went back upstairs and heard grown ups laughing...

For the record I think Kendrick has respect for Cole and didn't take the diss personal. But Drake has to be done with that nikka.

The bolded is why I think Cole shouldn't have apologized or removed his diss. Just let it stand for what it is and leave it alone.

Negativity (Kayfabe)
Is it better to get Ether'd or bow out? Or conversely if things would have played out to where he just looked like a third wheel on some "pay attention to me guys" while Kendrick and Drake took personal shots .
:why:

I put your favorite rapper neck in a noose, never lettin' them loose
Cole World, the heat'll blast through your speaker
He the last of Mohicans, no weaklings last in my sneakers

nikka want me on a song, he gon' see the wrath of the reaper
I'm prolly gon' go to Hell if Jesus ask for a feature
I'm higher than nikkas and don't need a bag full of reefer
Some see the glass as empty, I see a glass full of ether

Ya'll need to cut the shyt
