New Release: ‘Malia’ EP from Malia
Posted on July 15, 2014 by tylersadler12 in Interviews, New Release and tagged Acoustic, FP, Malia, Matt Martians,New EP, R&B, Satisfaction, Soul, Syd the Kid, The Internet.

Malia is your new favorite acoustic soul singer. She’s gained much deserved attention via her Instagram account from people all over the world as well as big name bands like The Internet, and is now releasing her very own EP. I met Malia when I attended college a few years back and have watched her grow as a strong, positive individual as well as a talented musician. I couldn’t be prouder and see bright things in her future. Stream her new EP while getting to know a little bit more about how her year in music has gone from 0-100 in our brief interview below!

What’s the title of the EP and why?

The EP is self titled “Malia” because I like to keep things simple and it’s an intro to who I am.

Awesome:smile: Where are you from originally?

Bellevue, Washington.

When did you start creating music? What’s your musical background?

I’ve liked singing for as early as I can remember but I was always shy about my skills and I didn’t start pursuing music until last year when I moved to LA. I started to seriously get into guitar and even though the thought of doing music as a “career” scared me I decided that I would finally face my fear head on.

That’s incredibly brave of you. What’s the single off the EP and what inspired that song?

The single is called “Satisfaction” and it was my love for music that inspired the song. I figured it was appropriate to put out as my first single because it gives listeners a solid idea of what I’m about.

Tell me about how your following has grown over the past year.

Over this past year as I’ve begun to put myself out more, my following has increased. It makes me very excited that there are more people who still want to hear a live acoustic style of music. I’ve mostly gained attention from my Instagram because that’s where I first started posting videos of covers.

I heard you record at The Internet’s (band) own personal LA studio. How did you get involved with them?

In December of last year, Matt Martians hit me up after seeing some of my Instagram videos and invited me to the Studio to jam. Since that time, I just kinda stuck around the studio because I wanted to learn and get better and I really loved the energy everyone had. Syd the Kyd and Matt encouraged me to put out a project and it was something I wanted to do as a personal accomplishment as well, so I started working on recording and writing more. I already had “Satisfaction” written at the time so I started with that and now here I am about to put out my own EP!

That’s amazing! Plans for your music moving forward?

I plan to keep creating music and I’ll start performing more now that I have original music to play that is out for people to download and listen to. I know now that anything can happen and I’m beyond excited for what is to come!

Birmingham, Alabama producer, Byron the Aquarius has been continuously influenced by Detroit’s Motown sound from Stevie Wonder to Dilla and the producer he worked closely with, Denaun Porter. As an all around music lover, he’s also heavily influenced by house, a genre that is frequently visited in his releases. Name checking Theo Parrish and Derrick May as influences, he will release his house album Vintage soon. Get prepared
