Feels good to be able to stream again. If you live in the Southeast, Comcast has been putting data caps on nikkas w/o warning (seriously, n o letter from them about this change, and it's not on any past bill statements) I only knew about it cuz last week Comcast called saying that we used up 90% of our internet data for the month and would have to pay of we go over. So I had to stop streaming and downloading audio and video so I won't go over (money's tight right now, I can't afford no extra charges). Internet data finally reset today so I'm :blessed:

So excuse the size of this big drop, it's 8 days of listening that I missed out compressed into 1 day.

“Much of mainstream Hip-Hop today focuses on shock value and targets generalities the mainstream youth can hype over.
As I went through each track I set on a journey to find a target memory from my past and used that as focal point for each individual song. I encourage people to simply listen and identify their own feelings and memories with each and every song. This is what Jazz is.” - Lasko

Lasko is a Chicago based producer who incorporates his musical upbringing into his work. Incorporating jazz, funk, and soul his mixtape entitled jazzis is mainly about the celebration of Hip-Hop’s roots through these different genres.

Lasko feels that the mainstream artists have deviated from the soul and essence of Hip-Hop. He would not go as to say that their music is bad, He just feels like they do not have as much substance and feeling behind it that it could have. This mix tape is his answer to that problem.

From sampling his least favorite Stevie Wonder song, hammering out drum patterns on his MPC and by paying homage via samples to Chicago legend Common and other notables from that time period he pulls out all the stops. Clearly the next generation of Chicago musicians know their roots.

This mixtape features verses from upcoming Chicago local emcees Monster Mike, Frank Leone, Kolby Woods, and Vince Mici. The track titled “Laws” is co-produced with South Carolina producer The Klepto. It also appearing are Kash Draco, Cam Cross and Lu Hound.

  • It may have recently been singer/producer/musician Muhsinah's birthday, but she was the one showering her fans with gifts. The Washington, DC area-based artist has released her long awaited EP, simply entitled M. If that wasn't enough, she's also dropped it for free via her website. Now, I'm not sure why you're still here reading and not over atMuhsinah.com yet, but since you're here, let me tell you this four-track EP won't disappoint fans.

Full of electro soul sounds and luscious harmonies, the EP, which was created solely by Muhsinah, is described by her as personal and true. It's that honesty that transcends throughout M, as Muhsinah sings over layered sounds colored with tinges of pop and soul. All of the intricate layers Muhsinah utilizes seem to fit together like pieces of the most perfect puzzle, just as all the songs compliment each other and fit together on this project. But the definite stand out for me is "Luv w Luv," with its playful beat and joyful theme of being caught off guard by love. Stream the EP below and then head over toMuhsinah.com to cop your own copy of what Muhsinah describes as a "sonic mood-ring."
