Every time someone says that "R&B is dead" or proclaims that they're "bringing R&B back," I must control myself from unleashing a tirade for them to stop the madness and to start listening a lot closer to all of the quality R&B music being produced today. Yes,today. Sure, R&B music may not have the mainstream prominence and chart dominance that it's had in years past, but the genre is alive, kicking and not going anywhere anytime soon. With that in mind, we reached out to one of our favorite Mixologists, DJ OhsoKooloutta NYC, to co-curate a mix of some of the best new R&B out right now for R&B Is Not Dead Vol. 1 to celebrate Black Music Month.
We love the R&B from the '80s and '90s, and the new directions in which genre is moving and evolving, but there is no shortage of new fangled R&B to give us that old school, feel-good vibe. You'll hear a number of those songs on this R&B Is Not Dead Vol. 1 mix featuring tracks by Mary J. Blige, Tank, Ledisi, Jennifer Hudson, Beyoncé and more. This is the first volume of what we're sure will be many to come. So the next time you hear some someone talking smack about the lack of good R&B music, just point them in this direction.
