Cruisin’
The singing in the beginning of the opening was the signal to turn the tv off or change the channel. We didn't watch Archie.

The show's producers used the show to expose how whites spoke behind closed and how there was a growing generation gap between old ideas and (allegedly) enlightened 60s and 70s young white people.*

I believe the creator, Norman Lear, was jewish, and that's the best way he felt to put racism front and center.....old white guy that white audience could relate to as their father or uncle..who thought the same shyt.

Some spinoffs from that show....the Jeffersons obviously...but Good Times spun off Maude..which spun off Archie
Well said..

Above the fray.
You make a solid point... but eras and context mean everything....

Put Uncle Phil and Wil in the 70s and Uncle Phil May have felt the same way as James
Over the years , when I've read about ER and JA's criticism of JJ I accepted it as truth.
Years later having read enough articles, seen enough behind the scenes shows about tv series, and having seen this boxcover
thewatermelonheist_18.jpg

yes...produced by John Amos and directed by his son.
I don't fully buy the "JJ is making Blacks look bad" argument from fellow cast members as their only beef.

:jbhmm:You mean your comments were no different from alt-right posters? Indian or not I get the feeling that Archie Bunker is one of your favorite tv characters for reasons other than the ones you're trying to pass off in this thread.

I'm sorry sir but I wasn't raised in this fakkit ass era where everyone is living in fear of an "alt-right" boogeyman, so a guy like Archie Bunker is simply someone to laugh at...which is why he was a character on a COMEDY SITCOM....in an era where people could actually take a fukking joke. My views aren't black and white, they are way more complex than that. That doesn't make me special, it makes me a functional, thinking, rational human being. That's the difference between someone like you, who is just a spine, and someone like me, who is a spine and a cerebellum. I was the one who made that thread, so why do you think you are exposing something nefarious by posting it here? Do you think only "alt-righters" believe in borders? Can you offer anything to contradict the data from the link in the post? Or you just fishing for daps?

Archie wasnt a white supremacist :what:theres a big difference between a white supremacist and an old style 'greatest generation' ignorance and racism. he was a typical knuckleheaded old and angry guy, confused at the changing world around him. supremacy would allude to some sort of power; archie was a blue collar witless, powerless dolt whos behavior (which was typical of white guys his age/background) was put on display, juxtaposed with the lives of the people he 'hated' , so everyone could see how ridiculous and unnecessary it all was in the grand scheme of things. the show was a big deal for its time, for sure. racism could definitely be learned behavior but i dont think anyone learned it from growing up watching archie bunker. most people grew up watching it realized how pigheaded it was

the era this show came from was a lot different. this was the era that produced things like the weather underground, the black panthers, and the SLA. this was the era where anti-racist radical groups kidnapped an heiress and demanded her father, as ransom, feed an entire neighborhood of poor people - and somewhat succeded.

the era we're in now , we have online 'movements', hashtags and movie premieres

its worlds apart. someone from this era doesnt have a leg to stand on when trying to criticize something that was created in the former era that was made to use humor to put ignorance and racism on blast and try to get everyone to come together to see how dumb it was

You have no clue.

Your local crackheads from the trailer park can be white supremacists. Its a practiced mentality

Its not just some powerful white men on the top floor of a high rise..

word i feel you, i worded that wrong. rich or poor they're all idiots anyway (especially if they're poor)

instead of power i should have meant unity or cohesiveness. archie was just an old confused cranky fukk mad at the neighborhood changing

:mjgrin:Riiiight. You're a "complex" thinker. Not an alt-right sympathizer. Only one such as yourself can grasp the complexities of Archie Bunker. Congrats. Not only that, but you regurgitate far right talking points...almost as if you are one yourself. Seriously though, you're schtick is transparent as glass. Trying to act like a tough guy "complex" thinker isn't helping.
