After rewatching the trailer this makes some sense. It looks like the dog is coming back to the house to try and find his family. If it is right after the bombs drop, we probably won't be dealing with anything close to organized government like NCR or Enclave. It's going to be a free for all with different groups trying to survive.

Looking at that power armor in the garage, I bet you can found the brotherhood of steel or some shyt.

Or two other possibilities.

2) the main character was in some sort of status chamber like the folks in the Tranquility Lane vault.

3) this will tie in with the Boston setting. He is an android based on the guy from past, but he doesn't realize it.
