I study stand up like I study rap almost, Carlin is almost a philosopher as much as he is a comedian. Same thing with someone like Bill Hicks. I mean yeah he was funny but I don't listen to Bill Hicks for jokes, he had some darts in regards to life and society. And there's nothing wrong with the more basic/physical comedy or comedians but there's a reason why people like Rock, Chappelle, Pryor, Carlin get the praise they do...they do the true work of the jester and slip the real shyt on behalf of the people under the guise of comedy.

I think as of now, Dave getting all the flack he has for his commentary on transgenderism is him kind of taking the fall for everybody else who is either trying to be neutral or at least express disagreement and ask questions about it without trying to be a complete a$$hole about it. He's opening up the dialogue without necessarily being mean spirited. That is a real time example of the power of comedy.
