Can't speak for all car rental companies, but Enterprise-rent-a-car is one of the shadiest places I've ever worked at. It was my second job out of college and that place was a shyt hole.
Where to begin... There was the usual managers fukking employees and employees fukking each other that you see in any retail environment. One of my managers used to fukk one of the female employees in his office damn near every night when we closed. Most of the girls working there were hoes. Didn't matter if they were married or in a relationship, if you put minimal work in you could get the draws. This one chick that's been married for like six years still texts me every once in a while asking me if I wanna beat.
Secondly, car rental companies and the automotive industry in general, are racist as fukk. We used to sell this shyt called damage waiver for if you got in an accident while in a rental. The thing is, if you have decent car insurance, your insurance company will pay for any damage you have while you're in a rental. Plus, you're not obligated to buy it in order to rent a car. Most of the managers in the rental industry are white and any time a black person or family walked in the store, they'd look at one of their black employees like
, get em.
If you was any kind of minority, it was open season. A lot of black renters had shytty insurance or they didn't understand that they didn't need to take out any additional coverage. Dudes used to trick old ladies into signing for the shyt (it's like $20 a day) when they didn't need it. If you was mexican and didn't speak english, there were people who would be like just sign here, here, and here without explaining what the person was signing for. People coming back to the office and their bill be like twice what they expected
. Some times they'd get it back, but a lot of times they wouldn't.
Plus, when you rent a car, we over book. So the fact that you made a reservation don't mean we have a car waiting for you. We were sold out all the fukking time. People coming in like, "I got a reservation," and we'd tell em we were washing it or some shyt, but we were really scrambling on the computers to find a store that had a car. Some times we just had to tell em, "sorry we aint got it."
. If you left any kind of valuables in the rental, we was keeping that. We had cars that came smoked out, had guns in them, vomit, all kinds of shyt. We'd vacuum it out and run it thru a light car wash and turn around and rent it to a family with kids. There was a bunch more stuff, but I'd have to write an essay to talk about it all.
Later on I might write about what the banking industry is like. I worked as a personal banker for a little while. People were getting fukked there too.
