Young Bucks, Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho all built him into what he is. White wrestling fans will always mark out for a asskicking Cowboy. It's a simple safe formula that they did a good job building through story telling

Mix Naito’s fall from grace in the IWGP Heavyweight title picture and rebirth with LIJ and DDP’s People’s Champion rise up the card and you basically have Adam Page and how he ended up where he is now. A guy who we all used to call Hangman Reigns because his push felt forced like Roman’s did back then too went through the most defined character arc AEW have crafted yet to become the top babyface over the likes of CM Punk and Bryan Danielson. Is he as good as if not better than some of his contemporaries? No, but he’s a good worker and the people love him and that’s what counts

It’s weird it’s just kinda like aew says this guy is cool and there fans buy it

but as a character he is boring as fukk I have never heard a good promo from him and besides his matches with Kenny I couldn’t tell you one good match he had without an elite member

but I also understand AEW trying to make homegrown stars and pushing him but I feel like his act is gonna be stale quick as champ

Hangman being organically over is why I feel a disconnect, not only with wrestling but specifically the fans of today's product. The guys that are organically over with wrestling fans are good or decent enough of the support, but somehow, every wrestler with any vocal support believes that guy should shine with the main titles.

I gravitate towards the Flairs, Rocks, Austins of the world. To continue the trend of my idea of what a champion should be, I grew up idolizing the Bryans and Punks of the world. In recent memory, it was the Okadas and Omegas. These are the type of dudes that create buzz, the type to get the public talking, the type to make it cool to be a wrestling fan, and the type to make groundbreaking moments.

I don't see that with Hangman and never have. Since he's been around the elite these couple of years, he's never grown on me. In my opinion, he's no different than guys like Christian. Specific fans wanted him to be WWE champion and I'm just thinking to myself you guys don't touch titties do you?

WWE never listening to fans is their downfall. I hope AEW always listening to their fans doesn't cause that same effect, as in it becomes too lame. I stated I already have a disconnect with everything now. Because there are a lot of dudes on the roster that can become "organically over" with the fans just like that. But does that mean every wrestler that gets over and has a storyline should be champion? Does every dude deserve a chance to be the guy, and receiving you deserve chants from the crowd?

This long ass post could be summarized through how I saw ROH in its last 5 to 6 years. 9 times outta 10 I asked myself why is this lame fukk the ROH champion?

I thought taking the title off Kenny was a bad decision. Cowboy is a B- player in my eyes but who knows what he could be down the line, I guess.

In just AEW lore:

he was over and won the tag titles with one of the most popular wrestlers in the world

he lost them the titles

his partner turned on him

he developed a drinking problem and was at his lowest

he crawled his way back after an absence

he won the #1 contender spot

He beat his former partner for the title.

Pretty easy redemption story for wrestling, he puts on good matches, it was a good long drawn out story :manny:

I havent watched AEW in full from the start (watched way more since Punk and Bryan showed up )but from what Ive seen about Hangman, they built a pretty good babyface arc with him about someone overcoming self-doubt

Orange Cassidy got screwed by COVID as much as any wrestler in the company, not saying he was gonna be AEW champion but he was getting some huge reactions on the shows before everything shut down, I wonder if they ever thought about putting the strap on him. But yeah it's hard to tell who is actually over in AEW because it's kinda one big circle jerk where everyone gets cheered because it's the thing to do.

Bucks vs Omega/Hangman Revolution tag made me fan.

He was just a guy who did a cool flip off the apron for me before that.
