Russia? I fail to see when Russia or the USSR actually supported Islamist movements. The secular/socialist movements of then were supported by Moscwo or had ties to it. And while Russia is one of Assad's main allies, you can hardly call him (or Baathists) "islamists".

Iran does contribute to the chaos, true. But they're the last ones to support groups like ISIS or AQ. Other than championing the Palestinian cause, Iran's role has been mostly to protect/advance the shia communities in the middle east (in a very hostile environment). I know you're an Israeli apologist but Hezbollah hardly compares to AQ or IS
