man...what sucks is that Iran could be an even slightly better ally (its all relative) but the saudis just have more general muslim control as sunnis

You're right. When America was in bed with Iran (Shah), America helped and had no problem with their nuclear program. The revolution really set things back between the 2 countries. KSA has Mecca&Medina and that means a lot symbolically. Not to mention that petrodollar compact after America came off the gold standard.

Iran doesnt have to 'win' the war.....just make american life so uncomfortable the public hear would have enuff....

Just wondering how much would be left of Iran after they took that beating (not much from what I'd imagine). America isn't as strong as it once was, but nobody wants it with the US. Not to mention countries in that region wouldn't mind getting some licks in either once they see Iran attacked. But if Iran were to implement a 'first strike', I couldn't see China or Russia defending them politically even if they are on the Security Council. Much less militarily if they're seen as the aggressor in the conflict.

what i mean is they will draw a 'line' in the sand and if its crossed i think they will make oil difficult to get out

US rescues Saudi airmen from water south of Yemen

WASHINGTON (AP) — A Defense Department official says U.S. forces rescued two Saudi airmen after they ejected from an F-15 fighter jet over waters south of Yemen, where Saudi Arabia is leading airstrikes against Iran-allied Houthi rebels.
The official says a U.S. helicopter flew Thursday from neighboring Djibouti to the Gulf of Aden and rescued the airmen. Initial reports said the rescued airmen were "ambulatory."
The destroyer USS Sterett took lead of the situation after Saudi Arabia requested U.S. assistance Thursday afternoon, coordinating assets from the U.S. naval base in Djibouti and the amphibious transport dock USS New York.
The official, who was not authorized to discuss the operation by name and requested anonymity, had no information on the two airmen's status or why they ejected from their plane.
