What you think about the ending?

Spoiler. Obviously.
Everyone thinks that she left him to die. But she didn't.

Yes, she did.

Well....

I thought she left him to die too. Until the car ride home and I'm thinking about it. Then it hit me :ohlawd:

First we got the shot of him banging on the door. It's obvious that he can't get out. So he goes back to the computer. And as soon as he puts the key card in the lights go out.....Then it cuts to her leaving.

The power went out.....that means the doors all unlock because the program he wrote. So she shorted the power again and saved him.

To me those were the two signs that she passed the Turin exam. She showed compassion and did something very human and then she exited the building

:smugdraper:
That's my take anyway

But it didn't work the second time because he was still banging on the door after the lights went out. Why didn't he just open the door? I really think she left him to die.

Personally, I think this movie complicated what it means to be human. She learned how to manipulate and use sexuality, and she learned how to hate. I'm not sure she actually learned love or compassion. Perhaps those things that are socialized or bred by being around other humans for an extended time.

Just came back from it. I liked it a lot but I'm not sure if I would call it great. Garland has a lot to pick up as a director because outside of the outstanding design (Ava's in particular, the entire laboratory another) I thought the movie wasn't always shot efficiently. Garland shows his strengths in his roots though, because although not without fault the writing is so goddamn good. Minimal exposition, captivating and strong dialogues, layered subtext, this is the kind of stuff I wish I could write. And of course there's the acting, with Viskander dropping one of the most fascinating performances I've seen in a while. Even if I wish there was a more gifted hand present to lift the movie's direction up, it remains a movie that deserves your attention.

I saw this today too. Damned good movie. Probably the best sci-fi thriller of its kind since Her and Moon

Question Five :wow:

The whole cast was outstanding. I'm gonna wait on the spoiler discussions for a while but damn... that endgame

Anything biometric lol. The fukk do you need a keycard for in YOUR OWN fukkING HOUSE :dead:

It wasn't just his house, it was his private lab also. But putting that aside:

Garland obviously went with a keycard because he needed some way that the dude could gain access to the parts of the lab he wasn't allowed into without lugging Isaac's body everywhere. It's just a writing thing.

Well, duh. Just seemed kinda lazy.

It seemed kinda lazy to not use a more scientifically advanced security measure which would've needed a lot more additional time to explain how dude would have to circumvent it?

Seems more like convenience than laziness to me, but that might just be the writer in me talking. :sas2:
