What are your culinary tips to maintaining a fit and healthy body?
Eliminate anything sweet. Not even fake sugar.
It makes life easier, but most folks I know get tired of whatever they prepare. It's almost like preparing the food is the same as eating it.
So I always have something that can come together real quick.
I keep coconut milk, limes, peppers, onions, garlic, salt and pepper at all times.
Any given moment I can put together a nice fry up or soup with those ingredients.
Do you use subscription meal services?
Never.
I started slow by eliminating things
DoorDash and Uber Eats
Fast Food
Sit-Down restaurants
Alcohol
Chips, Candy, Chocolate, Junk food
Ready Made Meals
Highly Processed foods
Sugar
Starchy foods
foods that are marked "diet"
Then maybe I need to drop "complex carbs"
Maybe I need to drop meat.
Maybe I need to drop dairy.
Maybe I need to drop caffeine?
Maybe I need to
add meat. Lean beef? Fatty beef?
Maybe I need to
add beef liver, kale, broccoli...
Maybe it's tomatoes, bell peppers, and onions I need to drop.
Any given person's body is an individual mix of genetics, family history, culture, location, GUT bacteria, etc.
One of my homeboys - given him 10 calories of chicken - and he might die, because he's allergic.
Another homie is a Type 1 diabetic, the two buns on the burger might end him.
It could be that some foods are giving cats heartburn, digestion issues, or other types of inflammation that they don't process...
Tomato sauce for whatever reason will have me wake up in the middle of the night, if I eat it too late.....
Beer, which I used to enjoy more regularly, definitely does something
other than get me feeling nice and add 40 grams of carbs for the day.
What foods are must haves?
Steak, Butter, Shrimp,
How do you snack responsibly?
I don't snack at all.
I generally eat one meal a day, between 3-5 pm.
Occasionally if I'm busy, and sometimes if I want to and I miss the window, I don't eat anything until the next window. I did Intermittent fasting throughout college and young adult hood (skipping breakfast and lunch), so that's not new to me. I've done 2 different, 20 day water fasts (20 days, nothing but water and electrolytes), so that's not an issue.
