Every now and then someone says Madvillainy was a classic. That album had no impact.

Y’all care way too much what the streets think, do, say.

"The streets" have been inundated with mostly hot trash for 20 years at this point. "The streets" like 'Wild Out' by The Lox. "The Streets" will tell you 'Breathe' by Fabolous is a classic song. "the streets" been banned.

Just this year one of the most lauded albums dropped and was a direct consequence of the album. But it’s also in an indirect way where it had influence on shyt that had influence on shyt.

DOOM and Madlib weren't "for the streets"

They're underground cats.

Madvillainy influenced a generation of artists.[90][91] Among some of them are rappers Joey Badass, the late Capital STEEZ, Bishop Nehru, Tyler, The Creator, Earl Sweatshirt,[4] Danny Brown,[92] Kirk Knight,[93] producer and rapper Flying Lotus,[94]producer and DJ Cashmere Cat,[95] neo soul collective Jungle,[96] indie rock band Cults,[97] and Radiohead singer Thom Yorke.[4][98] According to Earl Sweatshirt, Madvillainy influenced his generation the same way Wu-Tang Clan influenced the rappers of 1990s with their album Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers).[99] In 2009 a video of Mos Def working on his album The Ecstatic in a studio was released. In the video he praised Doom, saying that "he rhymes as weird as I feel", and recited some of Doom's lines, including the ones from Madvillainy.

To say it didn't have impact is just flat out false. Hugely influential. Earl and KNX and them continue to rip it off year by year. But I'm not big on media hype and hipster critical darling albums. There tends to be a disconnect between me and the albums hipsters praise, for whatever reason. Give me MM..food any day. I like a lot of stuff on Madvillainy but it feels like there's some filler and that's what doesn't take it to that higher level for me. I think Madlib and Doom are good on their own too. I would actually put The Unseen above Madvillainy. I usually come through with contrarian opinions but this album is overrated man. Influential though, to deny that is just wrong.

Madvillainy is school shooting music for black folk. It's still a classic tho. Not every album gotta be played in the streets for it to be classic
