Yeah would love to get Coombs back
I can see Coombs coming back to be DC. That would be the home run hire we expect. Nobody here knew who Hafley was before Day hired him, so wonder if Day knows others he has had an eye on. Hafley really left fast as fukk, faster than any other coach before. I guess Day doesn’t have the same “2 year minimum” commitment that Urb had with his assistants. Hafley hasn’t even been here for a full calendar year.
Yeah...Hafley been a position/assistant coach for over 10 years I think. Make me think that he just wanted a shot period, no matter where it was. On the bright side (for him), after Clemson, there ain't really too much to worry about in the ACC so he could see some quick success.
Like you said though, even if we don't get Coombs, I trust that Day will make the right hire again. Between plucking guys like Halfley, Yurich, then of course the dudes from up North, I think he's shown he has a good perspective on picking good coaches who shine in all areas including X's and O's, synergy, and recruiting.
I wonder if Hafley will take Al wit him. He probably will. It'll hard to pry Coombs away from Pees and Vrabel. All of them got something nice going on up in Nashville and I know he having fun up there coaching our secondary, especially with one of the top DB's in the game (Byard).
It'll prob be somebody we dont know again tho. Day said when he first got hired, he knew he'd hire Hafley a long time ago before he even got his first head coach job. You know how these coaches be, having their notebooks with names of everybody they come across. I'm sure he had a 2nd and 3rd option back then.
Would be a dark horse but I wouldnt mind if he kicked the tires on Roy Anderson down in LSU as just an analyst whom he worked with in San Fran. Dude been a part of some great defenses as a DB coach: Bears a few years ago, Ravens in the late 2000s, etc.
I know Coombs aint coming back unless he get that Co Coordinator bump just like Halfey and if Al stay, he gon probably want it too.
