They've made it clear over the years that this is their focus and if you want some serious basketball analysis (and not just X's and O's either), it's an abundance of podcasts and information available outside of them. They just want their cartoon characters to go viral on digital platforms.
If that's the case Tim Legler might wanna update his Linkedin

It’s all about shareholder value and revenue. If you aren’t a revenue driver they see no reason to keep you.

It’s where all the established public companies are going if they aren’t already there.

Damn, he also had great content for them on their Youtube Channel.

He was just on NBA Today yesterday too. He'll be straight tho, I'm sure one of these online media companies will grab him and now he'll surely negotiate a deal where he can own his own IP on his own Youtube Channel and be on TV if he chooses to.

JJ's production company should grab him and have him spearhead that content since JJ is gone. If you go to his channel, they haven't posted in like a month since they changed the name of the channel

ESPN is turning into trash reality tv. Journalistic integrity no longer exists on that channel. It’s all about being a personality and entertaining viewers for the time slots they’re positioned in. The viewers are in it for the hot takes.

They’re appealing to the casual of casuals that wake up in the morning. Then they look at the giant headline, hears SAS yelling and spitting all over his notes in the morning. Then they laugh at Pat Mcafee jumping up and down like a complete moron in the afternoon. He acts like a frat boy at Goober St University or somewhere stupid.

Then they regurgitate the same points to their co-workers in the office that have a fanstasy football league with a pot luck of money crammed into a jar for the fukking winner.

It’s not turning into that, it’s been that. Once First Take went mainstream in 2010 off the back of Skip stanning Tebow and hating LeBron, the floodgates opened

They do not care about analysis, they want controversial takes that will go viral and get people talking.

It was rumored that those gambling sites wanted Woj and Schefter, so I doubt ESPN would have let him go and that the choice was his own.

Even they seem to have been caught off guard by the extension.
ESPN is known for locking their talent up in non-competes while they pay out the contract. So I could see ESPN making an exception for Woj to take that job since it keeps him away from going to any competition while still collecting his severance or whatever else was left of his contract. I'm clearly just speculating though and talking out my ass so who knows.
