Fukk your corny debates
How about you cite me some peer reviewed economic papers on this matter. Not saying you're lying but as Matt Taibbi has shown, some of these newspapers and investment TV shows turn a blind eye to many things.
Nah I don't feel like doing that. How about I link you to an unbiased source, the Fed itself. FRB: FAQ for central bank liquidity swaps - Credit and Liquidity Programs and the Balance Sheet
Nah but seriously, I'm pretty sure central banks doing currency swaps to increase liquidity during credit crunches is pretty standard and uncontroversial. And we do have more liquidity and a stronger dollar than when they started doing this on a large scale in 2009. If I searched for economics research on the topic, it would probably be written by Fed co-signed authors anyway lol.
But I don't think Grayson was really substantively "grilling" him like it might appear at first glance. He was asking him what banks did the dollars go to. How the fukk is Bernanke supposed to know specifically which institutions they ended up in? The swaps were between our central banking system and theirs, and like 40% of our banks are members of the Fed. I'd imagine it's similar in Europe. So when Bernanke says he doesn't know, it sounds like he's on his heels, but it was really a pointless, irrelevant question.
