You think they structure deals so you can just go after they invested in building you up?

They offer 3-5 fight deals. I mean AB turned 40m just to make 1m per fight.. You take the deals first then after they promote you for years you drop them.

less promoters in boxing is ideal

again, not that cut and dry. boxing needs less vultures and crooks like any other industry. EVERY fighter needs a promotional outfit of some sort. EVERY fighter works with a promoter. You know that dont you? You can take Errol Spence to the smallest town in the U.S. he still has to promote the fight himself or work with someone local. if you put out an album, not one person would buy it unless you promoted it in some way.

You think they structure deals so you can just go after they invested in building you up?

it depends. they have to know what they have. they cant hold you forever. you have to prove your worth and they have to prove their loyalty and commitment. it really comes down to timing and luck. like a fighter can be on the last fight of a deal and have a career defining win...or loss for that matter. now that changes the entire dynamic in one fight. then along come bidding wars, guaranteed fight contracts, etc....

thats the game. fighters sign with whoever they think can get them to next level. promoters sign fighters when they see potential and hope they can see that they have something good enough to re-up with.

big time promoters make or break your career. they can put your ass on the shelf. Spence is my dude, but without a promoter...a couple of losses and his salary will greatly decrease. Prime example: Zahir Raheem beat Erik Morales but after a career defining win, he was basically rendered powerless by his promoter. Bob wouldve released him but really couldnt do shyt because he had no other way to promote himself. Even after the Morales win, people still didnt know who he was.

Center self, inner self
I don't see how he clearly needs one with the trajectory he's on right now. He just sold out in his hometown after just putting 12k in the seats at Barclay's in January, which is a great number for boxing. Other than the layoff after the Kell Brook fight(and that was partly due to the IBF not having a mandatory challenger lined up) PBC/Haymon has been making all the right moves with him. He appeared on the very first PBC/NBC show on a Thurman undercard, headlined an PBC/NBC show in BK against a NY fighter, and then he appeared on NBC immediately following the gold medal basketball game and got like 6M viewers as a carry over effect. I really don't see what Arum or De La Hoya could be doing different, when TCraw fights outside of his hometown he hasn't proved to be a draw, the Horn fight only drew 8k(Arum also sabotaged him by sticking him on a bullshyt app) and when he's fought in NY, Arum's dinosaur ass has stuck him in the theater for less than 10k. I think Spence is right about where he should be and will only get bigger with more activity like he's planning out now.
This is ultimately how I feel about Spence's promoter situation. I hate that people believe he needs a "mouth piece" to become popular/a big star. Talent and performance make you a star, not fukking talking shyt. Floyd has somehow brainwashed himself into thinking his mouth is what got him the riches he wanted. It was his performances and talent that got him there--winning. Winning is the ultimate allure to the public. There is no Money Mayweather without the PBF foundation of winning and winning spectacularly.

Anyways, Spence will be boxing's top attraction, or at least one of the top attractions, in no time. Canelo is on his way down, so that will open up a lot for him. Joshua is probably number 2 right now, but who knows how long that will last, with Wilder breathing down his neck.

Floyd wasn't a big name outside of boxing circles until he left Arum and started up Mayweather promotions:camby:

Floyd was a house hold name damn near before the dlh fight. He already had multiple classic fights under his belt. I remember they were talking about the hype of Floyd vs Judah on star And buck wild before Judah lost to baldamir

Floyd was not a household name pre DLH...he was somebody you knew if you really followed boxing. Hell most couldn't tell you anything of floyd's fights in his first decade of fighting outside of the fights with JLC because they heard its the closest he came to losing.
.certainly none of his fights in the 90s lol

Again Floyd. Vs zab Judah was being hyped on star and buckwild which was a syndicated morning show! What do his fights in the 90s have to do with anything :what:
If Floyd was a no name wth did he have so much leverage in the dlh fight why the hell would it generate the money it did....y’all not even making sense

That was because of zab..who was more well known in those days...oscar held all the leverage in that fight..he was the biggest draw and the champ.

Star and Buckwild's audience paled in comparison to the type of audience familiar with Oscar De La Hoya and that includes a significant amount of folks who don't even watch boxing. Oscar was one of the greatest things to happen to Mayweather, probably second only to Haymon.
