I'm all for calling out racism for what it is, but, that's not the truth.

The problem was there was a centralizing of power in Hollywood we're there were less power players.

The greatest example of this is how Fox tried to play Kenan Ivory and Living Color buy selling the syndication right back to themselves (via FX) as he stood to make a grip if it went to the market.

You needed a power player to back you to get a show and to be black, damn.

Will got it and I'm sure the Jamie Foxx's of the worth--Smart Guy, Wayans Brothers--got a lift

But, even when you think about it, there were more wack as shows than classic, we remember Living SIngle and Steve Harvey and forget about Homeboys from Outer Space

Desus & Mero reminded me of that comedy about slavery that almost came out

And too many of them were on the same network

UPN had like 50% of every black show in one network and they turned to C(AC)W

Black shows backed by white men couldn't survive Hollyweird.

But, let's be real; we had the whole 90's basically of great black shows

Things got quite in the 2000's because, again, politics was killing shows like The Bernie Mac Show, because white people didn't get it and wanted more power when it got more popular

This is why we need to read and watch more stuff from writers of these shows

Eh, Not buying it.

I know there was a media consolidation that took place in the early 2000’s that affected music and television

but why not replace them with what we (black folks) were accustom to already?

hire the same writers again? keep the formula going?

seriously. somebody higher up either said they weren't interested in this, they didn't get it, or they were tired of the positive imagery <<< it's one of these three.

and I posted on here years ago about that dj that felt the Telecommunications act of 1995 was enacted to counter the million man march

we organized like that without any mainstream support or endorsements - it was all through black radio and that scared white people in power.

think about it: the system was working just fine before, SOMETHING happened to make them want to change :francis:

Breh, entertainment has NEVER worked like that

Wayans Brother got cancelled because as they got more poppin', they wanted a raise and WB was like :mjlol: :mjpls:

Larry Wilmore (Writer on the show) said Bernie Mac was critically acclaimed and popular and they tried to shut it down while Arrested Development had horrible ratings and they rebooted that bullshyt

Most of all the black movies made in the 80's and 90's were low low budget and had high returns and even if they didn't do big in the box office, because the music industry was still poppin', the soundtrack probaly went platinum or gold

I'm not sayin' it's not racism

Because white people do not value black audiences

But, it's more complex than old white gathered in a dark room to ruin black TV--we didn't own shyt. And that's why I hate that "We are the coolest people in the world--every one follows us"

No, we're exploited very well and if we ask for power we get squash

Seth Rogan, Will Ferrall and Adam Sandler keep pumping out bullshyt because they have friends in high places

Well I think Black TV stemmed from the Good Times, the Jeffersons, Cosby shyt...

And every show after that was kinda sorta the same vine...

They gonna show the reality and then the aspiration...

And after a while...you run out of ideas...

And they probably listened to Hip Hop...

And was like..."how about we just make Hip Hop songs into TV shows..."

And you hae to remember all the gritty ultra realistic shyt that came out in the 90s

Boys in the Hood, Juice, Menace to Society...thus you got "negative" portrayals on TV

It's no different when Scandal came out at the end of Obama era...

Black TV is trendy...it follows trends...that comes from the broader Black popular culture...

Atlanta wouldn't be a TV show if Atlanta wasn't popular...

somebody called me out about that on the S&A film site years ago.

I saw them together at a function in NYC years ago....my eyes told me that he was white....film/tv geeks on the site nearly ran me off the site for saying that.....

he's supposed to just be a super fair skinned "brother"...I left it alone.
Nah, he’s a cac but has a black pass and is fake-down like Timberlake, and Robin Thicke. He’s one of those “invifed to the cookout” cacs because “he’s down”
