there was a systematic racist attitude that pulled ALL positive black imagery off television...
for all these new nikkas that say people are hating and shyt just sucked or whatever need to wake their asses up
they did the same thing to black music
I'm all for calling out racism for what it is, but, that's not the truth.
The problem was there was a centralizing of power in Hollywood we're there were less power players.
The greatest example of this is how Fox tried to play Kenan Ivory and Living Color buy selling the syndication right back to themselves (via FX) as he stood to make a grip if it went to the market.
You needed a power player to back you to get a show and to be black, damn.
Will got it and I'm sure the Jamie Foxx's of the worth--Smart Guy, Wayans Brothers--got a lift
But, even when you think about it, there were more wack as shows than classic, we remember Living SIngle and Steve Harvey and forget about Homeboys from Outer Space
Desus & Mero reminded me of that comedy about slavery that almost came out
And too many of them were on the same network
UPN had like 50% of every black show in one network and they turned to C(AC)W
Black shows backed by white men couldn't survive Hollyweird.
But, let's be real; we had the whole 90's basically of great black shows
Things got quite in the 2000's because, again, politics was killing shows like The Bernie Mac Show, because white people didn't get it and wanted more power when it got more popular
This is why we need to read and watch more stuff from writers of these shows
