Prostitute carries with it a moral disapproval. The act of exchanging sex or erotic stimulation for money is value-neutral, and the sooner our society legalizes it the sooner women who work in the sex industry can be safer. And sex worker is more accurate, anyways. There are many kinds of sex work, not all of which include intercourse or even physical contact. But all of them carry a stigma.
