He started falling off when he dropped The Eminem Show and starting producing those terrible beats. His rapping fell off shortly after.

this shyt.. eminem show divided the stans from average fans of eminem.. those beats showed that same shyt.. a good rapper who lost touch with what his subject matter should be.. shock rap that he couldnt keep up with

thats why nikkas around my way say ludacris, redman, etc better than homie

Yeah, it happened after TES. Encore was pretty bad but all the albums he's released since his hiatus are even worse.

When he came out with Relapse his flow had gone all weird and song singy I was like man, this sh!t sound wack.

Then on Recovery it was even worse. Screaming all over the tracks with that weird flow, I was like this sh!t is garbage, can't even listen to this. If he was spittin like that when he 1st came out no one woulda f*cked with him.

After 8 Mile. Encore just sounded forced/tired compared to his earlier work.

Relapse/Recovery era Em sounds just like that: like an athelte who has recovered from an injury. talent is still sometimes there but other than that he aint really even close to what he used to be.

the closest he has been to "old Eminem" after his "comeback" was on Bad Meets Evil EP.

Ya'll Right. It was right after the Em Show. U can tell he lost his direction when 50/G-unit came along he became a gangsta. Started takin the beefs too serious. Like getting to involved/personal. Not sayin he didnt have the right to defend himself against Ja/Benzino but u can tell it took a toll on him. Then from there instead of the I dont give a fukk attitude he started caring more and more about what others said. It seems like he has to constantly prove that he's dope. Like do wat u do. And Just go in full beast mode. Stop the punchlines its not ur forte'. Stick wit the multis and stop screeamin to get ur point across. With the whole "What I mean is" nikka dont explain shyt to me :childplease:

Once he stopped being the underdog. His whole style, and essence was about proving himself. After he did... His act got stale. Same talent, less appeal.

That's why 8 miles revived him for a stretch... It allowed him to "act" like he was the underdog

Good point, I never looked at it like that before.

Post-Encore. He's not that bad these days Relapse showed that he can go crazy rhyming if he wants to but he chooses not to. Around Curtain Call and the Re-up dude was barely rapping he was talking loud. Also for someone who gets stereotyped as a typical shock rapper he changed his style of rhyming a lot.

Infinite Em: Nas/AZ hybrid (especially AZ, close your eyes and listen to the title track, it's practically AZ) Normal subject matter compared to the rest of his career

SSLP Em: Developed his own style here, below average flow as he used to go off beat just to finish a rhyme (traces of Redman/Masta Ace) Adopted fantasy raps as part of his technique and largely abandoned the working joe approach on Infinite (If I Had notwithstanding)

MMLP Em: Lyricism stepped up here IMO perfected rhyming sounds as opposed to words on this album (<---this is a reason why he's one of the best technically)

TES/8 Mile OST Em: Lyricism took a backseat in order to improve his flow, became pretty balanced as a result. IMO He was at his best here. his voice changed which is something that no one seems to point out Em used to be overly nasal and had a noticeable accent on his first two albums compared to the rest of them

Gangsta Em: after signing 50 and G-Unit lol

Encore/Curtain Call/Re-Up Em: In hindsight, you can hear him on drugs when you listen to tracks from this time (compare the difficult track he recorded to proof with when im gone, fack, some songs with cashis, and no apologies) Whereas Em used to be overly lyrical with poor flow, Encore had Em trying different flows and fully blending with the beat which is the only good thing about the album (evil deeds my 1st single crazy in love big weenie, etc.) the rest of the album he was on that talk rap shyt.

Relapse Em: IMO the most technical he's ever been and some songs are amazing because of it (deja vu, stay wide awake :omg:, same song and dance, 3am) unfortunately his content was the weakest it's ever been. Em was once able to balance delivery and content, he definitely doesn't do it here.

Recovery Em: Lyricism and his flow took a backseat for him to adopt punchlines into his raps. Eminem is NOT a punchline rapper. at all.

Screaming Em: People forgot he was doing this for a while after Recovery.

Doubletime/Tripletime Em: This is where he is currently and while I prefer this style to his punchlines/screaming he is far from what he used to be.

And some of his his highest quality work was on that 8 mile soundtrack. Didn't 8 Mile come out after TES? If so then I consider his peak to have ended after the song Rabit Run.

The decline started with TES & 8 Mile OST (which were good to great albums but nowhere near the classic shyt he was dropping from late 99 through 2001 (SSLP, MMLP, & The Devils Night album). He was killing every feature he was on during this period.

The Eminem Show has some fantastic inclusions to his catalog, but is inconsistent. Encore also had some highlights, but the overall vibe of that record was brought down by some terrible music.

He's still one of the best technical MCs in the game, but the content and delivery has dropped off a fukking package at the post office.

This dude needs to stop with the "spell it backwards" ... and "explanation" type content...the tense shifts destroy the vibe of the record. Embarrassingly, he thinks he's being witty/clever, but anybody older than 12 is rolling their eyes.

when he got REAL fukked up on drugs, then when he came off them...basically, after TES...SSLP and MMLP were ridiculous...dude's level of entertaining sick/crazy cleverness was untouchable by anyone in the history of rap in his prime, in the way he put the rhymes together
