some of the best lines in hip hop are simple rhyme wise. ghost is one of my faves, "soul controller" might be his most simple rhyme wise, but the imagery was crazy. my favorite ghost song.

The object of basketball is to score more than the other team. You score by putting the basketball through the hoop. A slam dunk is a way of putting the ball through the hoop. It's a higher percentage way of putting the ball through the hoop than most other shots. Taking high percentage shots increases your chances of winning. Dunks require more energy than other shots as well. Nothing about a slam dunk would be lazy because that dunk is adding to the score of the game, which is the whole point of the athletic endeavor, and it takes more energy than most shots anyway.

I actually understand the point obarth's trying to make. It's valid, but it's wrong simply because this is a freestyle. There's no reason for a 40 second freestyle to be moulded together to mean something.

The reason why Em's skills are respected are because he blends the words he uses together with what he's talking about. There's a concept or story behind whatever the song is about, it's not just words for the sake of words. Sometimes he makes it his own version of braggadocio hip hop. But I can agree, I'd rather listen to an average verse by Rick Ross than any "lyrical miracle spiritual" rapper forcing things.
